Showcase Flower Room - Plants are placed and under irrigation.

Showcase Flower Room

Plants were brought into the room early this week after wrapping up the cleaning and sterilizing process. There are 16 LED light fixtures in this room and 9 plants are put under each light. That gives us a total of 144 plants in the room. The current model is 1 strain per 2 light which gives us a total of 8 strains in the room with approximately 18 plants per strain. The room was planted with 7 new strains and 1 returning favorite. The lineup for this round is as follows:

  • Pound Cake Indica

  • Dragonberry Kush Indica

  • Biscotti Bliss Hybrid

  • Frosted Fuel Hybrid

  • Guava Cupcake Sativa

  • Cheddar Cheeze Indica

  • Mind Melt Indica

  • Space Ape Hybrid

That gives us a total of 4 Indicas, 3 hybrids, and 1 sativa for this room.

When first placed in the room, all plants were watered with a compost tea to help the transition from the Veg Room to the flower room. After the plants were acclimated to the room they were spaced and placed on irrigation. Temperature in the room is in the low 80s and humidity is 65%. Light intensity, and carbon dioxide will slowly be increased as the plants grow.

Even though this is a flower room the lights are currently on a  vegetative schedule of 18 hours on 6 hours off. The plants were topped to encourage lateral growth and once we seem them respond to this pruning we will switch to a flower light schedule of 12 hours on 12 hours off. This change will happen sometime next week.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 8 of flowering (days 49-56). The flowers are maturing and ripening with some looking like they will be finished soon, maybe even next week! There are 4 main strains in the room and 6 Micro Batch trials.  All the strains are quite unique in aroma and flower structure.

The strain that will be ready first, Diesel Cuban Black Haze, has a nice fuel meets pine smell. It is almost unbelievable that this cross is this fast to finish but the appearance of the trichomes is telling us just that. We pride ourselves at Small Batch on harvesting when the plants are ready, not just arbitrary dates to accommodate crop cylces. While this strain appears it will be ready to harvest at 56, most of the other strains look like they have approximately 14 days to finish.

The room was pruned fairly heavy this week removing a lot of interior fans leaves as well as damaged and old leaves. This lets in more light and increases air flow which becomes important as the flowers continue to swell.

Light intensity, nutrient, temperature, and carbon dioxide are beginning to decrease as we try to mimic the seasonal changes the plants would encounter in nature letting them know it is time to finish their flowering cycle.

Our Moms Are Big! Awaiting cloning and trimming.

A round of fresh cuttings rooted and awaiting a transplant

Mom and Veg Room

The plants for the Showcase room were moved out of Veg which gave us extra space for a couple of days before that space was occupied with more trial varieties and cuttings. There are some cool strains coming that we are very excited about.

Moms are big again and this time it is for a major cloning event. It is about time to do a reset on our Mother plant stock as they are getting old and showing signs of wear and tear from being pruned so many times. Every strain in the room will have 10-15 clones taken and once those clones are rooted the original Moms will be cut down and the clones will become the new Moms. We don’t do this often but it is helpful to do every once in a while to keep your plants as healthy and thriving as possible.

It’s also about time to pick the strains that will fill Flower F0A soon.  We haven’t decided what yet but there will be some goodness for sure.

That about sums it up for this week. Apologies for no Blog Post last week but with the holiday and how busy we are here sometimes things happen. We are back on track (as best as we can be)  and so many cool things are happening here we are glad to keep you up to date as best as possible. Thanks for understanding, thanks for reading, and most importantly thanks for continuing to support Small Batch.

One Love
